- Treasurers’ Report read from attached from DEC 01/24- JUN 30/25 inclusive- of note, literature sales incorporated into the Treasurers’ report. No vote taken as GSR’s just received report
Phone line concerns again raised, as it is a substantial expense and as reported in the last RSC, minimal use. A motion will be brought forward at the fall Assembly as to whether it should be cut. Many members spoke in favour of keeping the phone line and the value to the new members seeking help.
A question was posed as to whether we can cut some of our Zoom licensing costs as well. Sue will be doing some investigating and will report back at our next RSC meeting in the fall.
A member asked what the proposal is for the allocation of the savings. No current plan, question has been raised in the past simply as a way to be fiscally responsible. However, extra funds are generally sent as contributions to WSO. They have also been used in the past to assist with the establishment of new groups, to assist with event costs (ie. ORCNA) etc.
A member asked whether our email info address then should offer a phone call as an option to people reaching out who may be in need of assistance should the phone line be removed. This option will be added to the above motion.
- a) Our current balance sits at $14 672.86.A motion was brought forward to make a contribution to WSO of $5K by the Region Chair. Members spoke in favour of this motion. An email will be sent to all GSRs with this motion to vote with their groups and respond by August 8th to the Secretary. Votes will be gathered by email and results will be sent to the membership as a whole and should it pass, the Acting Treasurer will send our contribution to WSO in AUG/25.
The Acting Treasurer will bring a motion forward at the fall Assembly to increase the prudent reserve from ⅓ of fixed costs to 100% of fixed costs. Please note we currently keep cost plus 1/3 of costs as prudent reserve, voted on by fellowship March 2024
*Note from Chair that Common Welfare Topics will be sent to groups shortly by our Delegate- GSRs keep your eyes open for that.
- b) The Unity Prayer is not CAL but is owned by Overeaters Anonymous. A portion of Traditions 4 was read from the Traditions and Beyond workbookby the Chair. Groups are therefore discouraged from using it as it is not CAL. Questions were asked if groups can still use, it was suggested that it could be said after the meeting closed, if groups wanted to strictly follow the traditions.
*Rocky Mountain has a Concepts workshop starting JUL 15/25 at 6pm weekly. Please reach out for contact details.
- c) NarAnon can attract but not promote ourselves at local events. For more information please check out Traditions 3, 6, 10, 11 and 12 in the Traditions and Beyond workbook. For anyone wanting more details on getting the Nar-Anon message out into the community, the guide to local service is an excellent resource. Also connect with Jennie, our Regional Outreach Chair.
- Chair, Co chair and Treasurer will all be positions in need of filling at the fall Assembly as Sue will be stepping down and Lu is currently in the Treasurers’ position temporarily. GSRs please canvass your groups for these 3 positions.
Chair encourages all committee Chairs to form committees of members to encourage growth through our fellowship and growth in service. The hope is that committee members then will grow in the positions and that we will have more volunteers for RSC positions in the future. The Outreach Chair has already begun this process.
The Secretary raised discomfort that one RSC member is holding 3 positions, Website Coordinator, Literature Coordinator and the Acting Treasurers’ positions. The Chair does have access to the account and GSRs must vote on each Treasurers’ report with their group conscience so there is oversight.
The secretary also notes that membership has never voted on an RSC member holding more than one position, the Chair noted that there is a lot of precedent for it in our Region with volunteer energy being low. Lu reminded the membership that each RSC member only holds one vote, regardless of how many positions they hold as per a past RSC Assembly vote.
Sue noted communication between the two is of vital importance. When asked if Lu wanted to bring a motion forward for the membership to vote on merging the two positions, Lu corrected that he is not suggesting merging the two positions as future Treasurers may not want or be capable of the added responsibility. ) Lu offered to concede the Treasurers’ position if anyone else wanted it. There were no volunteers at present. GSR’s spoke in support of Lu.
A vote will be held at the fall Assembly for the Treasurers’ position.
- The Fall RSC meeting will be held SEP 20/25 and the Regional Assembly will be held NOV 08/25.
The meeting closed at 11:22am
NOTE: Treasurers’ Report was not voted on at this meeting. GSRs please review with your groups and we will vote on it at the next RSC meeting.
